University of Arkansas

The University of Arkansas nickname originated back in 1909 when, according to the school's website, head football coach Hugo Bezdek called his players "a wild band of Razorback hogs" after a win over LSU. The name stuck and the student body voted to officially adopt the mascot a year later. A live Razorback, affectionately named Tusk, has attended all home football games since the 1960s.
